Schedule Changes
Openings still exist in many events, and further changes may occur as the season’s progress. Notices of schedule changes are periodically e-mailed to the New Jersey Interscholastic Sailing e-mail list. Teams are responsible for any such changes and are advised to mark them in this bulletin upon receipt. Questions about scheduling, and any changes to your team’s schedule, including any adds and drops, should be directed to Brian Hull at brihull@msn.com In addition to contacting Brian, you must also contact the affected host.
Life Jackets and Record of Participation Forms
• Each team must bring Coast Guard approved PFD’s sufficient for each sailor on the water. PFD’s must be worn at all times on the water.
• Each team must fill out the Record of Participation (RP) forms clearly and legibly including the full name of each participating sailor, their class year, and the races they sailed.
Team Uniforms
All student-athletes competing in MASSA’s New Jersey Interscholastic Sailing League regattas shall wear a uniform designating their high school. The uniform shall be a lightweight jersey, bib, or pinnie worn over the lifejacket, or like colored lifejackets. To designate the high school, any combination of the high school’s name, nickname, mascot, or other identifying image shall be present on the back of the uniform and, except for individual’s name or number, shall be the same for all team members competing. The league recommends that the image used to designate the college be at least 8” X 8” in size.
Respect for Host Yacht Club or Colleges
• Each visiting team should take special care of the host’s facilities and boats. Clean up and dispose of any lunch time trash. When sailing from private yacht club facilities, be particularly considerate of club members.
• Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in boats or at the site of any college regatta. Lunch breaks are at the discretion of the host; teams are encouraged to bring their own lunches so lunch breaks may be kept short.
Format for Events
Unless otherwise specified, events are sailed with two crews of two persons each for 420s, FJs, and Techs.
• Lasers are sailed singlehanded.
• Team Racing events: are sailed with three crews of two persons each.
• Fleet Racing events: count toward your team qualifying for MASSA district events.
• Series events: will be held every Wednesday at the Toms River Yacht Club with the Skipper’s meeting at 3:30 PM. Cumulative scores, by final finish standings in each event. Any team that competes in at least half of any particular series events will be scored, however, a team which does not attend an event will be scored as if they finished one higher than the number of teams which did compete.
• The host team/s, in minor events only, and only if room to compete is not denied to a visiting team, may enter two teams. The “official” host team, team 1, shall be designated before racing, and both teams shall be scored in each race.
